Network Consultant

M.A. Polce is looking for a Cyber Security/Network Consultant that is able to work in a variety of network environments. The candidate must be willing to do some travel across the Central NY area and potentially into other North East areas. Work will include mostly Firewall deployments as well as switching and routing. A strong candidate will also have a broad range of knowledge that can include wireless, VoIP, and Windows/Linux systems experience.

The Cyber Security/Network Consultant is responsible for helping design, implement and maintain solutions for a wide range of customers. Working with our customers to determine their requirements and propose solutions is necessary, as well as upgrading, maintaining and troubleshooting issues that arise. Knowledge and implementation of security and management tools implementation will also be part of the duties. Maintaining certifications and training are also necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design network topologies and architectures
  • Installation, provisioning, and maintaining of network switches and routers and firewalls
  • Development of firewall rules for test networks, network firewalls, Windows firewalls
  • Configuration of VPN’s on firewalls and routers
  • Identifying and troubleshooting of network issues (Firewalls, VPNs, routing, switching, etc.) both LAN and WAN
  • Re-evaluate new technologies, and ways to improve existing network resources
  • Perform testing of new technologies
  • Participate in ongoing training as applicable
  • Assist in the monitoring of network resources and respond to incidents when necessary
  • Review/Design firewalls and implementation and verify that no cyber vulnerability exists within the existing design
  • Provide field support/assist in the setup all network switches and firewalls and ensure that the equipment performs properly and passes all required network traffic
  • Track all required licenses/firewalls and key network deliverables
  • Participation in compliance audits
  • Assisting with maintaining compliance documentation
  • Assisting with Patch Management programs for compliance
  • Next Gen Firewall deployment and network architecture design
  • Vulnerability assessments, assisting with and performing penetration testing
  • Developing network hardening plans and procedures
  • Working closely with customers to understand their requirements and design solutions around them
  • Implementation of wireless customer networks and utilizing tools for wireless assessments
  • Deployment and maintenance of Voice over IP solutions
  • Have a knowledge of systems (Windows/Linux) to be able to perform configurations of systems and applications as necessary
  • Develop procedures for others to follow and build on internal processes and procedures
  • Some programming a plus
  • Be resourceful and willing to learn


  • BS in Computer Science or other Information Technology discipline or have the equivalent  in experience
  •  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in networking, security and Telecommunications
  •  Strong experience with Cisco products and solutions is a must

Special Position Requirements:

Experience and certification specifically with Cisco networking and security products to include: ASA, IPS, basic and advanced switching and routing, layer 3 switching, and chassis based solutions such as Nexus.  Experience with Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) is a plus.
